Portland Horror Film Festival Returns to the Big Screen

Last year the Portland Horror Film Festival made history by being the first genre film festival to offer its entire program to horror fans online. This year the festival returns to the historic Hollywood Theatre with 5 days of exciting screens to go along with 9-day schedule of streaming films. As the world struggles to return to whatever normal is, a hybrid horror festival is a very welcome addition.

The 2021 edition of festival kicks off on July 28 and runs through August 5. The lineup includes a diverse and inclusive selection of more than 80 short and feature films, live Q&As, interviews with horror icons, and pre-recorded content during the 9-day event. In short, this years program offers all the goodies that PHFF regulars have come to expect from the yearly shindig.

This year’s lineup includes 10 feature films, including the US Premiere of Vurdalak Blood from Argentinian director Santiago Fernandez Calvete. Other feature offerings include Alex Gavin‘s The Turn of the Screw, Ove Valeskog‘s Mareld, and the Pacific Northwest Premiers for Red Snow, The Stairs, Greywood’s Plot, Red River Road, The Horror Crowd, Miimaland, and Zombie Infection-Belaban Hidup.

As someone that has attended every rendition of the Portland Horror Film Festival to date, I can say with certainty that this is one festival not to be missed. It’s a wonderful blend of what the genre has to offer, showcasing a little bit of something for every type of horror lover. Want horror comedy? Animated horror? Gory horror? It’s all available and then some!
