‘Eternals’ Trailer: Chloe Zhao Brings Her Signature Style to the MCU

We’re just now starting to understand the outline of where Marvel’s taking the MCU during Phase 4. A new status quo of crusaders will lead the franchise into the future, and the Eternals trailer has given us a glimpse of some of these fresh heroes.

The current pandemic delayed the production of Chloe Zhao’s movie, but after a wait that felt like forever, Marvel has released a two-minute Eternals trailer to get us hyped for the November 5 release date.

Eternal Thena (Angelina Jolie), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Eternal Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), Ikaris (Richard Madden), Eternal Gilgamesh (Don Lee), Eternal Sersi (Gemma Chan), Eternal Ajak (Salma Hayek), Sprite (Lia McHugh), Eternal Makkari (Lauren Lidloff), and Eternal Druig (Barry Keoghan) all make an appearance in what appears to be a very different type of movie for Marvel.

Check out the Eternals trailer below:

Eternals marks a departure from Marvel’s bright and VFX-heavy approach to filmmaking. The stunning landscapes are similar to Zhao’s other movies such as The Rider and Nomadland, and it’s evident that entering the blockbuster realm hasn’t forced her to compromise her vision. In a recent interview with Variety, Kevin Feige revealed that the director was encouraged to bring her signature style to the proceedings, so fans can expect to see something a little bit different in Eternals.

Then again, Marvel has an admirable history of letting talented filmmakers bring their own sensibilities to the MCU, which is why WandaVision, Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor: Ragnarok remain so delightful. Zhao is an Oscar-winner too, so Feige and co. will know that their movie is in good hands.
