‘He Dreams of Giants’ Trailer: Terry Gilliam Documentary Coming to Digital Platforms On March 29

The world of motion pictures is littered with stories of passion projects that never seen the light of day. Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Dune, Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis and Guillermo del Toro’s At the Mountains of Madness immediately spring to mind. For years, Terry Gilliam’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’s seemed destined to experience a similar doomed fate to those unrealised movies.

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote finally made it to the screen in 2018 after almost three decades of being stuck in development hell. Gilliam simply refused to give up on his passion project, even when it seemed like an impossible dream. Needless to say, the film’s behind the scenes were significant, and they’ve all been documented in the documentary He Dreams of Giants.

Directed by Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe and produced by Lucy Darwin — the same team behind Lost in La Mancha, the 2002 documentary that chronicled The Man Who Killed Don Quixote’s mishaps until that point in time — He Dreams of Giants will tell the complete story of how the movie came to be.

However, this is more than a documentary about The Man Who Killed Don Quixote‘s woes. Described as Mark Kermode as “a real insight into the pain and ectasy of the creative process,” He Dreams of Giants is an intimate portrait of a legendary artist in the twilight stages of his long career.

With insights from Gilliam, Adam Driver, and other parties who experienced the story first-hand, it sounds like a must-see for film fans who want to learn more about the fascinating story. The documentary will be available on digital platforms on March 29 courtesy of Blue Finch Film Releasing. Check out the trailer below for a taste of what’s in store.
