Scott Adkins Is Up For Playing Johnny Cage In the ‘Mortal Kombat’ Sequel

The new Mortal Kombat movie is only a few months away, and the world will be a better place when that day comes. We’ve been starving for another live-action feature since Mortal Kombat: Annihilation blew our minds 24 years ago, and the reboot promises to be the glossiest adaptation yet. However, while most of the star players from the video games are set to make an appearance, fans will have to hold out for the sequel until they get to see Johnny Cage in action again.

Action maverick Joe Taslim, who plays Sub-Zero in the reboot, was a guest on Scott Adkins’ latest The Art of Action podcast, and he more or less confirmed that Cage will be absent this time around. Towards the end of the conversation, Taslim revealed that he’d like to see Adkins appear in the sequel. He also said that he’d make a perfect Johnny Cage. Adkins was very much into the idea, too.

Check out the full conversation below (the Mortal Kombat chat occurs around the 46-minute mark).

Adkins would be a perfect fit for Cage. He’s handsome, ridiculously charismatic, and is more than capable of delivering a few impressive kicks. Despite being one of the greatest action stars in the world at the moment, Hollywood has yet to take a chance on the Englishman as a main event player in a major blockbuster. That needs to change. He should have been Batman.

Of course, the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot needs to do the numbers at the box office before the sequel talk has any substance. If you want to see Adkins tear it up with the likes of Taslim down the line, be sure to support this movie when it hits screens worldwide this coming April.

The new movie follows Cole Young (Lewis Tan), a washed-up martial artist who is unaware of his secret lineage. This has also led to him being hunted down by Sub-Zero of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins, who want Cole dead because he could be humanity’s salvation. After learning that he has a higher purpose, Cole agrees to participate in an inter-dimensional fighting tournament alongside a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm. Should they fail, the scoundrels from the realm of Outworld will cause major problems for humanity.
